Lezyne Road Drive vs Innovations 2nd Wind Pump31 May 2009 16:49 GMT1
I currently use an Innovations 2nd Wind Pump (standard size, not the
mini), which can also serve as the inflator head for CO2 cartridges.
I was in my LBS today and saw a Lezyne Road Drive Pump.  I usually can
pump my tires to about 80psi with the Innovations 2nd Wind.
Surly Long Haul Trucker: Anybody Over 6'5" Got One?31 May 2009 03:08 GMT11
I'm thinking about building up a LHT with parts I have from other
bikes.
The 62cm (largest) size looks kind of like my 24" 1983
StumpJumper - which fits me ok with riser bars on it.

The Andre Jute FAQ v1.1
Q: Why a Jute FAQ?
A: To save newbies and casual visitors to RBT from wasting a lot of time on a
serial troll.
The bicycle frame as a spring?30 May 2009 23:16 GMT41
What I want to know is why no one builds a bicycle frame of flat
spring steel. The spring(s) could be arranged in an elipse with the
bottom bracket attached to the belly and the seat sitting on the
humpback, the pointy ends being the attachedment points for the front
Historical questions on welding/fillet brazing/lugging steel frames30 May 2009 09:15 GMT15
I'm sure this has been answered mightily in this group before, so if
someone can pass a link along that would be great. I'm not an engineer
or metallurgist, so layman's language would be much appreciated ;)
Also, yes, tig welding vs lugging vs fillet brazing is indeed one of
Pedal powered hot dog launcher30 May 2009 06:33 GMT8
So you're given a bunch of hot dogs. Then you're asked to come up with
a team, and build a home made contraption measuring 6x6x6 ft so as to
launch the dogs to the greatest possible distance in just 3 tries. As
if that's not enough cause your head to itch, you're told you can't

He has been having major problems with these brakes especially wearing
down of the pads in very short periods of time to the point he loses

Bottom Bracket Broken29 May 2009 23:07 GMT15
The drive side axle broke just inside the transition from square to
round. A classic fatigue failure with half of the fracture nicely
polished and the other half grainy. This was a Dura-ace BB-7410. It is
around 12 years old but only had about 20K miles on it (shares duty

my 7800 DA shifter to rear derailleur ate a cable-end yesterday....
broke the cable just past the end, and the end dropped inside the
shifter somewhere. I cannot shift it around to grab the end  out. Any
tips on dismantling without destroying the shifter?

Seatpost diameter for older RockHopper?29 May 2009 06:25 GMT4
Picked up a mid-90's steel framed Rockhopper Comp as a beater
commuter.  The frame tubing is labeled as Ritchey Pro-logic "Nitanium"
- whatever the Nitanium might be.
The fork is 1 1/8 unthreaded, and by measuring the existing seatpost
why threaded 1 1/8th??29 May 2009 02:50 GMT9
With the change from predominantly threaded headsets to unthreaded
aheadsets came the move from 1" to 1 1/8", so why threaded 1 1/8th
headsets? What's the advantage of the larger size in the ahead form?
Stiffness and weight??
