| "Shimano shifter quick fix" | 25 Feb 2010 04:46 GMT | 6 |
I have 2 or 3 sets of LX/XT 8-speed shifters kicking around my parts box, and recently my stx-rc 8 speeds on my classic Rockhopper beater bike started to mis-shift. By mis-shift, I mean the rear shifter would not engage when up-shifting.

| Bicycling by candlelight? | 25 Feb 2010 02:29 GMT | 9 |
When the weather gets better - soon, I hope - I'm interested in attempted some night rides by candlelight. I found these candle lanterns [http://www.candles4less.com/ candleholders/Candle-Lantern] that I could probably rig up to work on

I have the inexpensive (okay, cheap) Performance Technique rollers, which have been gathering dust for about 15 years. Now a friend would like to use them. The belt is in one piece, and seems to work, but I cannot imagine it

| More Than One Pedal Washer Per Side? | 23 Feb 2010 20:42 GMT | 8 |
Hello. During the winter when I am wearing booties I hate the way the booties scuff up my cranks. I have put clear plastic tape over the arms to help prevent/reduce this. But the tape gets crapped-up quickly. So I am wondering about adding one or more pedal washers for the winter ...

| Don't do what I did | 23 Feb 2010 00:07 GMT | 67 |
Front tire had 6000 miles on it, casing developed a small tear, right at the rim... it was hell to find, but not unexpected, no big deal. New front tire, only 1500 miles... descending a steep hill, blew unexpectedly--yowzaa, hell to stay upright!! Looked like a snake bite, in

| Need a new Schrader pump head | 22 Feb 2010 15:28 GMT | 14 |
I have a '70s MDI floor pump that I use to keep the tires on the family cars topped up, and to do our kid bikes with pressures into the 60 psi range. The head has failed after a mere 35 years. I can get a Planet Bike head shipped for $6 shipped, or a Topeak

| What type of Crank Bearings set did the guy install? | 22 Feb 2010 04:02 GMT | 9 |
I had grinding crank bearings and the local bike shop mech I was talking to sold me on replacing them with a low cost option; $35 if I recall correctly. As it is Spring time (well, the trees think so where I live) I was

| Anti-rear-light movement | 21 Feb 2010 22:01 GMT | 1 |
I didn't know that bicycling once boasted an organized anti-rear-light movement in the UK: "Although some companies offered a lamp for mounting on the rear of a bicycle, it was not until the Defence of the Realm Act (DORA) was
