Possible to repair a flat-spot (kerb hit) on rear rim?30 Apr 2007 22:32 GMT5
Dear all. Just got my first Rohloff bike. I did not spot a full height
kerb drop-off on one of the local cycle lanes. The front was saved by
the NCX suspension but the rear took the full hit when going up the
kerb. This has caused an indent in the rim or 'flat spot'. In part

Oddball question about disc brakes30 Apr 2007 19:04 GMT4
I'll be getting some new wheels for my MTB shortly, and I want to go for
the standard 6-bolt hub rather than Shimano's proprietary CentreLock.
The discs I already have are CentreLock, and I would like to use them.
Would anyone happen to know if the 6-bolt spacing on the ...
Motorbike abuse30 Apr 2007 12:43 GMT26
This morning I was abused (verbally!) by a motorbike rider. A friend
and I ride to work, often stopping 2 abreast at lights to stop the
frequent occurence of cars pulling up in front of us then cutting us
off by going left. We immediately seperate into an inline form when
So which 'safety' equipment do you cycle with?30 Apr 2007 11:05 GMT36
As subject line really ... Which, if any so called 'safety' equipment do you
all cycle with?
I know it depends a lot on what people are doing, DH'ers might have full
body armour etc, but for general purpose getting about, day to day riding?
I despair, I really do.30 Apr 2007 11:04 GMT59
I despaired when I read this article in my local rag - the same paper
that champions Carlie Annetts and BeHit.

I was on the lookout for a square taper, 5 arm spider crank for the
fixie project and was recommended to pay a visit to The Bike Station [1]
in Edinburgh. These folks take in unwanted bikes & bits and recycle what
they can. So, last Saturday I paid them a visit and after a bit of ...
Tagging? StopTheft or DataTag?29 Apr 2007 20:39 GMT5
I just bought a new Marin, and it came with a leaflet for "platinum
online", which is where you can register you frame number for free, or
for an additional £8ish you get a StopTheft chip to put down the seat
tube.

Well, we were both catching insects, but I suspect the swallow that flew
alongside today, for a hundred or so metres, was doing it on purpose :)

Todays FOOC on R4 had the last piece on cycling in Cambodia.
Pretty depressing, you only ride a bike if there's no option as
appearances count for a lot and currently cars appear better to the
locals.  Should be able to catch it on Listen Again.

Legal standpoint of cycling and road use28 Apr 2007 20:50 GMT40
A friend of mine was, yes arrested, for riding a bicycle in a
"dangerous manner". I was curious to know if cyclists are bound by the
same laws and rules as motor vehicles (on roads)? Surely doubtful the
cyclist was in breach of the highway code by say doing over 40 on a
Pavement Police28 Apr 2007 20:47 GMT24
I was outside a school today teaching young riders the folly of pavement
riding, when, yes, wait for it, two cycling bobbies came along - on the
pavement.
They pulled up showing genuine interest in the cycle-training, and
helmet subtext28 Apr 2007 16:23 GMT7
Ok, so I suppose I'm just slow ..
I have a Specialised helmet sitting in its box in the garage (it came
free with the bike, and no I wasn't allowed to have anything else
instead - I asked). I thought it might come in handy one day.
